MIDLAND, TEXAS (January 3, 2011) – Reef Services has acquired Quantum Energy Chemicals of Longview, Texas. The acquisition gives Reef, headquartered in Midland, a significant presence in the states of Pennsylvania and North Dakota. As a result of the purchase, Reef will also be gaining additional yards in Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas.
Quantum historically focused on the wholesale side of the business with a dominant position in coil tubing related chemistry. This permits Reef to better expose its stimulation line and opens new markets for expansion with fracturing additives, pipeline, and production chemicals as well.
“Quantum Energy Chemicals takes Reef into new shale play geographies - like the Marcellus and Bakken, and more specifically Pennsylvania and North Dakota as the hub of these new operations. Quantum Energy Chemicals also provides an outlet for Reef to establish and build upon our wholesale market strategy,” says Clay Baten, Reef Services’ President and CEO.
The founder of Quantum, Erin Farris, will be joining Reef at the Corporate Account Management level and will focus her effort throughout the United States. The acquisition gives Reef two industry standard bearers in the coil tubing chemistry market, Steve and Tom Richardson. Their leadership as VP’s of the Quantum segment will be key to Reef’s continued growth.
The acquisition is expected to increase Reef’s current total revenue by one-third.
